Mirabelle Jones is a writer and visual artist born in the Bay Area and currently living in Los Angeles, CA. She has held residencies at The Hive Gallery and Studios, Women’s Studio Workshop, The Foundry Nights, and KALA Arts Institute.
Currently, she operates as an organizer for the anti-street harassment organization Hollaback! LA and serves as a sexual assault and domestic violence advocate for East La Women’s Center. She has received awards from The Pollination Project and the College Book Arts Association for her project JARRING III, a collection of survivor narratives with proceeds benefiting rape crisis centers. In 2011, she founded the organization Art Against Assault, encouraging the development of artistic works that promote sexual assault and domestic violence awareness while raising funds for national and local resources.
Her works have appeared in exhibitions throughout the United States, and she has been heralded in the Huffington Post, ArtNet, Mic, Bustle, ATTN, Ms. Magazine, Sleek Magazine, Feminist Magazine, Bookbinding Now, and Beautiful Bizarre, and more.
She has lectured at the College Book Arts Association, Academy of Art University, the BIL Conference, and presented at the Southern Graphics Council International Conference and Mindshare LA. The first woman to graduate in the Fiction concentration with an MFA in Book Art & Creative Writing from Mills College, she is the Founder & Editor in Chief of The Book Art Blog and a docent at the International Printing Museum.
