Film Series: The White Ribbon

Film accompanying The Narcissism of Minor Differences, MICA's exhibition exploring the dark side of intolerance.

Set in the years before World War I, The White Ribbon earned the Palme d’Or at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in 2009 for its dramatic telling of a number of unexplained accidents that beset the villagers in a rural German town. The film, posing more questions than answers, is about “the origin of every type of terrorism, be it of political or religious nature,” according to the filmmaker.
