Music + Art Film Series: BLACK FEBRUARY

In February 2005, legendary jazz composer and conductor Lawrence “Butch” Morris celebrated the 20th anniversary of Conduction, his revolutionary technique for live music-making, with 44 performances over 28 days with 85 musicians from across New York’s music community–all captured in the documentary, Black February. Director Vipal Monga and Paul Miller, aka DJ Spooky, that Subliminal Kid will co-host a screening of the film and hold a post-screening conversation about Butch, his role in the evolution of jazz, and his influence on other the musical styles, from big band jazz to funk to electronic and symphonic works.
